This system aims to remove barriers in the lives of sexual minorities so that they can live their own lives with their loved ones. (Effective August 5, 8)

System summary

○If two people, one or both of whom are sexual minorities, wish to use the system, they must notify the prefecture that they will become life partners.

○The prefecture will issue a “Notification Receipt” etc. to prove that the notification has been received.

　*The entries in the family register and resident record will not be changed.

Requirements for persons subject to notification

○Both parties must have reached the age of majority (18 years old)

○Both parties are not married or in a partnership with another person.

○Both parties are not in a relationship that prohibits marriage under civil law (excluding cases where both parties have adopted based on a partnership relationship)

○At least one person must have an address within the prefecture or plan to move to the prefecture.
